My name is Martina Alemagna and I work as a Massage Therapist.  I run my own practice based in Seatoun, Wellington. I specialise in a wide variety of treatments, from relaxation massage, hot stone massage, deep tissue and more.

For me it all began when my son was born. He was born with heavy atopic eczema and the doctors tried to prescribe steroids, which I did not agree with. Therefore I choose to seek an alternative medicine and luckily I found a very good homeopath who helped me to start a plan. So I became more aware of natural healing and I focused more on our body talk.  This is where my research started and during this time one of my best friends was studying therapeutic massage and she slowly introduced me to it as well. My  friend practiced the therapy massage on me and after some time I wanted to learn too.
    I started to do some massages on my family members and friends. I felt that they enjoyed it and me as well, which always boosted my energy.
    When I had the opportunity to study at the Wellington School of Massage Therapy I was very excited. I have finally achieved my goals and extended my knowledge. I am convinced of the importance of massage, of the  healing touch I give to other people and I am also aware of the importance of my own feelings and psychological condition. When I take care of me first, I am then able to bring that same level of care to others. I can massage firmly when needed, but what I do is feel each muscle and work with it accordingly. What I try to do is massage firmly but gently so that the muscle can actually relax.

Massage is one of the earliest therapeutic practices for the relief of pain and the restoration of healthy body functions. With everyone leading such busy lives, preventative health is becoming more important as we realise the health dangers of our environment, such as stress, fatigue, long working hours, pollution. Years of research and clinical studies prove that massage therapy helps with more than relaxation. The medicinal benefits of therapeutic massage can have a positive, lasting impact on your health and lifestyle.
It is essential to find time to relax and unwind away from the pressures of everyday life, to help the immune system function at it is best, to restore balance, feel good and enjoy better health.
I provide the following therapies:

What to Expect

  • Please note that massage should absolutely be avoided if you currently have an infectious or contagious condition (flu, common cold, virus) or disease, fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, unstable hypertension, have had recent major surgery or are under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

During Your Massage…

  • I often use oil or lotion. If you're allergic to oils or lotions, please tell me beforehand.

  • Place your cell phone on silent.

  • Communicate with your therapist:  I am invested in making sure that you’re comfortable with and during your session, so don’t hesitate. If the background music is too loud or I am applying too much or not enough pressure, you should feel free to say so. In case of hot stone massage, please let me know if you are not comfortable with the temperature.


After Your Massage…

  • Get off the table slowly. Once dressed, I may give you home-care information which may include exercises,  suggestions about movement and posture and other recommendations to help improve your condition. 

  • Increase water consumption. Drinking water helps to flush toxins released from your body’s soft tissues to maximise mobility in your muscles and joints thereby minimising day-after soreness.

  • Book your next appointment before leaving! Massage is cumulative and most effective when received regularly. We encourage you to try several of our team members!

Before Your Massage…

  • Increase water intake 24 hours prior to the massage session to help keep your tissues hydrated.

  • Before arriving for your massage, take a hot shower to help muscles loosen and relax.

  • I will consider information about your physical condition, medical history, lifestyle, stress levels, medications and any areas of physical pain that could affect your massage therapy outcome.  To speed up the process could you please print the “Intake form” which should be completed prior to your first appointment. The form can be downloaded clicking on the “Intake form” button.
